Our Call into Ministryaboutuspage

David and Rebecca Ortiz have been called to live in Paraguay, serving in medical evangelism, medical teaching, discipleship and church planting. This calling was confirmed by their home congregation, CrossBridge Community Church in San Antonio, Texas, who is also their sending organization.

David's Bio

David was raised in Asuncion, Paraguay, but moved to the United States when he was 18. He graduated with a degree in chemistry from Ouachita Baptist University and completed medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He served as a Family Physician in the United States Air Force for seven years and has spent the last ten years in medical education, as well as full-scope Family Medicine clinical practice. David became a follower of Jesus Christ at age 20. He initially did not have a particular passion for missions, but through a three year process after becoming a follower of Jesus, the Lord broke David’s heart for the lost in the world, particularly for the Paraguayan people. David has served on multiple short-term medical mission trips with various agencies, and is also passionate about educating and training Family Physicians to meet the spiritual needs of patients.

Rebecca's Bio

Rebecca was raised in the Northwest (Washington State and Idaho) and was blessed to be raised in a Christian home. It wasn’t until the beginning of her junior year in college that God captured her heart and revealed all that he had done for her on the cross. She graduated from Montana State University with a chemical engineering degree and served in research and development in the United States Air Force for four years. She has worked as a research scientist, an environmental consultant, a business operations manager and currently serves on staff at CrossBridge Community Church. She and David met at a Bible study while they were both in the Air Force and married shortly thereafter. Her passion for missions began while she was in college, when she served with Baptist Campus ministries in Utah for a semester. She has served on short-term mission trips in several countries in Latin America, but it was just in the past two years that God gave her His heart for Paraguay. She is passionate about taking the message of salvation to the people of Paraguay through teaching and discipling other women and working with youth ministries.
